"Jessie" is an 8 year old red dun mare that I rescued approx 5 years ago. She was treated extremely harshly right infront of me, her legs and face were covered in severe scars, she was borderline aggressive and completely wild and untouchable when I bought her. I have used natural horsemanship techniques with her and she had 30 days professional training with a natural horsemanship trainer earlier this year. She did very well but I would still call her "green broke". She has really never had anyone else work with her other than the trainer and I. I bought her because I wanted to give her a good life... and I have done that for as long as I can... and she has given me her whole heart in return. I have moved across the country and I cannot ensure that she is well taken care of anymore. It is only fair to her that I find her the best home possible.

She is a 14hands... maybe a bit taller. She may be a pony by height, but I have always thought of her has a small horse... lets just say think of her as a mustang rather than a pony. I am 5'9" and don't mind riding her a bit. Her trainer was close to 200lbs and she didn't have any trouble carrying him. She is very tough. She has never had to have her feet trimmed. I suppose she probably would if she were stalled or in a different climate, but the ground naturally keeps her feet in great shape in western Oklahoma. She is an amazing girl. She is so smart, has a ton of personality, greets you with a nicker, and will try her heart out for you once you bond with her. She never forgets what you teach her... even after years.

She used to have a severe "pull back" problem. It wasn't until she went to the trainers this past year that we have been able to overcome that. She has been really great, but who ever takes her should know that she has that history. You can't tippytoe around her because of it though... that makes it worse. You have to be confident and calm.

She leads, loads, ties, picks up her feet, you can touch her anywhere, she's easy to catch. I can walk out in the pasture and hop on her bareback but I wouldn't recommend that to someone else until they really get to know her. She's had a TON of desensitizing... but can still be jumpy IN HAND sometimes. She has never spooked with me under saddle. She's actually really amazing under saddle. She is SO naturally low headed and mellow. She is just green broke, but I have ridden her all over the ranch, in and out of cattle herds, in water etc. with no issues. She is naturally curious and likes to be mentally stimulated so I think she really enjoys being ridden and going new places.

I want her to go to someone who wants a best friend. A horse to love and have fun with... trail ride... enjoy life. I would not recommend her for an unconfident rider, a beginner or a child and I will not adopt her out to such a person.

I am asking a $500 adoption fee. To be completely honest, I don't think you can be really prepared to own and care for a horse's upkeep and potential needs if you can't afford a $500 fee. Also, half of the adoption fee will be donated to Golden Rainbow Ranch, a non profit ranch which specializes in doing nature centered programs for disabled and disadvantaged children.
